It's been an interesting shearing season! We've sheared in the cold, after the rain, in high humidity, in extreme heat, and surrounded by cats. The cats were there to annoy us every step on the way. They love the smell... Continue Reading →
We purchased a high top dining table and chairs when we first got married. Mink likes to sit on a chair, find a crack in the vinyl, and tear bits and pieces off. So, I decided it was time... Time... Continue Reading →
Nope, black sheep baby fleece. I'd been inspecting Raven's baby fleece from last year, and when I walked away for just ONE moment, that's all it took. Then the cats started fighting over it. One would kick the other out... Continue Reading →
Sometimes you just gotta have an iced latte even in the middle of winter. My rheumatologist recently changed my meds and now I feel like I have cotton mouth, I'm nauseated, and I'm desperately thirsty all the time. (Hopefully these... Continue Reading →
Today is the Solstice, which means we are in the backstretch! I'm thrilled about longer days and more sunshine! Solar powered here. I love it when the planet starts tilting back towards the sun again. Spring is also just around... Continue Reading →
Well, Blogmas took a break over the last couple of days. We had quite a storm here on Wednesday night. Serious winds and then a line of storms like a derecho, which was then followed by worse wind, dust all... Continue Reading →
Here they are - the two newest Kansas Clan members - Foxy Loxy and Mouse! They got a forever home for Christmas. I didn't start volunteering at the no-kill shelter with a plan of adopting, but that was before I... Continue Reading →
Yes, I agree, this is happening a little late, but it's still earlier than last year! Yes, I learned my lesson this year. Normally we get our tree by the first or second weekend of December, but I'm learning that,... Continue Reading →
We've decided Duchess isn't that good at "cat yoga" on the deck. She tried a few moves, but then just wanted cuddles and scratches. She also kept getting distracted by bumblebees, other bugs, and the pressing need to bathe and... Continue Reading →
Zoey-the-Feline-Acrobat Takes a Long Drink
This is your introduction to our newest feline, Orange. Someone dumped him off at our house. He is very obviously someone's very annoying house cat.
The house we purchased here in Northeast Kansas ended up coming with two cats, 12 chickens, and two ducks! Yes, the sellers left their pets behind. Can you believe it? Neither could we. We continue to be horrified.
We are all moved! It's taken me a while to sit down and admit this as it's been "traumatic". I returned to Kansas with the last load on June 29, and we didn't finish unloading the truck until yesterday!
Sandhill Flats Farm is moving: sheep, chickens, horse, cats, and all! The Husband got transferred to NE Kansas. We will start our farm move on or around June 1. It's always an adventure with this guy!
There I was, minding my own business, getting hay for my sheep, when lo, under yonder pallet, a critter doth hissed! I screeched and laughed. Hhheee's bbbaaaccckkk!
So, a couple of weeks ago, in the middle of the night, I sat bolt upright in bed having heard a cat scream the most blood-curdling scream ever. I woke up yelling our outdoor cat's name, Tito, knowing for sure the scream meant he was in the throes of death.
Well, we made it through Hurricane Irma after sheltering in-place. We did not have any significant damage. The worst that happened was the metal cover over our ag well was peeled back like the lid on a sardine can.
Well, we are going to shelter in-place since we are not under mandatory evacuation orders. We are about 40 miles from the west coast of Florida as the bird flies. We are also about an 1/8th of a mile from... Continue Reading →
